The University of Kassel is a modern and growing University with round about 25.000 students. She has an extraordinary wide section with expertise of nature, technique, culture and society.
In the Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences, the following position is to be filled by April 1st, 2022:
|Date of Hire:||01.04.2022|
According to Section 64 (1) of the Higher Education Act of Hesse (Professur mit Entwicklungszusage)
We are looking for a scientifically outstanding personality to head the section “Environmentally-compatible animal nutrition” with a focus on organic agriculture. She/he shall contribute to research and teaching aimed at the consolidation of the profile of Organic Agricultural Science at national and international levels.
In research and teaching, one focus of the professorship is the development and validation of concepts for an appropriate, environmentally-sound, and performance-based nutrition of terrestrial farm animals. By considering different scales, ranging from the individual animal to the farm level and beyond, questions of animal nutrition should be conceptually and methodically reconciled with aspects of environmental protection and with societal expectations. This can be achieved by further developing methodological approaches for assessing animal-specific environmental impacts and concepts to increase the contribution of livestock farming to environmental and climate protection, or by considering new or alternative feeds with relevance to organic livestock production. The use of digital technologies for high-resolution data collection and automated evaluation of data can thereby offer advantages.
The successful candidate will offer basic course modules on animal physiology, anatomy, and nutrition in the German-language BSc program "Ökologische Agrarwissenschaften". Additionally, for both the German-language MSc program "Ökologische Agrarwissenschaften" and the English-language MSc program "Sustainable International Agriculture", method-centered modules for the quantification and assessment of nutrient conversion in animals and nutrient flows from feed production to processing and feeding should be developed.
Applicants must have a habilitation or habilitation-adequate achievements with a focus on livestock science or veterinary medicine and several years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher. Relevant internationally peer-reviewed publications in leading journals on several of the topics mentioned above as well as experience in the independent acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects are expected. Didactic abilities, teaching experiences and willingness to teach in German and English are required as well as the willingness to participate in university self-administration. Previous activities must demonstrate the capability for interdisciplinary cooperation. Own contributions to or documented interests in research questions pertaining to organic farming are desired.
The employment and performance requirements apply pursuant to §§ 61, 64 (1) of the Higher Education Act of Hessen.
