Part-time position with half the working hours of a full-time employee. This is a fixed term-position of three years with the possibility of extending the contract for a further two years (position for academic qualification corresponding to § 72 HessHG i. V. m. § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG; opportunity for PhD project).


A fixed-term qualification position is offered in the field of "Foreign Language Teaching and Learning Research: English Didactics ", which is committed to a close integration of empiricism, theory and practice and focusses on the psycholinguistically based, empirical investigation of learning and teaching processes of English as a foreign language in inclusive contexts of second or multilingualism, taking into account cognitive factors and the development of evidence-based implications for the teaching of English as a foreign language.

Tasks:

  • Research assistant at the Chair of “Research on Foreign Language Learning and Teaching: English Didactics “
  • Independent work on an evidence-based research area, e.g., a topic related to inclusion-relevant cognitive approaches to language learning and/or teaching, particularly in the context of teacher training for special needs education (at Uni Kassel: L5), and/or on attention and learning deficits in foreign language acquisition (PhD qualification project), taking into account empirical data collection in school or lab settings
  • Initiating and supporting research projects and contributing to publications in the field of “Research on Foreign Language Teaching and Learning: English Didactics”
  • Active participation in the development, implementation, and evaluation of teaching formats and/or instructional interventions with a specific focus on inclusive English language teaching / teacher training for special needs education (L5), particularly considering heterogeneous learning conditions
  • Planning, implementing and monitoring of innovative courses with a focus on inclusion, especially for special needs education (L5) in the subject of English (2 semester hours per week)
  • Support in the preparation and organization of scientific conferences, workshops, symposia and events in the above-mentioned field
  • Participation in academic self-management and in the subject and study structure of the above-mentioned chair

Requirements:

  • Completed course of academic study in English teaching /TESOL degree or a master's degree in English studies with a focus on research on foreign language teaching and learning (for international degrees, also an M.Sc./M.Ed./M.A. in second language acquisition, multilingualism, applied linguistics or TESOL, and/or Educational Psychology). The required degree must be available by the recruitment date at the latest.

Advantages are:

  • First publications and/or conference presentations, e.g. at student conferences
  • Proven practical or conceptual experience in the field of inclusive education, preferably in the context of teacher training for special needs education (L5)."
  • Experience in working with schools, centers for practical teacher training or other school-related or school-affiliated institutions
  • Ability and interest in dealing with heterogeneous learning conditions
  • Ability to work in a team, reliability, structure and a high degree of independence in completing tasks as well as enjoyment in working with different groups of people
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, e.g., experience in supporting the preparation and organization of academic conferences
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as well-developed presentation and facilitation competencies, along with a thorough and diligent working style
