We are looking for an academically outstanding candidate with high visibility and leadership experience to represent the subject area of ‘Higher Education Research’ in the sociology department in a thematically broad and theoretically sound manner. The profile of the position includes working on current issues relating to higher education, science, studying and teaching from a national and international perspective, as well as embedding them in social contexts and transformation processes. Topical interfaces should exist, in particular, with research into science, education, organizations, professions, technology and innovation.
The applicant is distinguished in sociological higher education research or in related fields of sociology. This is particularly evident through outstanding publications with international visibility and through the successful acquisition and leadership of relevant research projects. In addition, the applicant has an established network in the national and international scientific community of higher education research and shows an openness to interdisciplinary cooperation through corresponding projects and publication activities. Teaching experience in sociology, including the supervision of theses and doctorates, is required.
The applicant is expected to participate in the collegial management of the International Center for Higher Education Research (INCHER). Contributions to the strengthening and further development of the current INCHER research mission statement ‘Universities in Social Change: Multiple Missions, Hyperactive Organisations?’ with the four thematic focal points are desired:
- Multiple dynamics of competition in higher education and scientific research
- Science and professions in changing labour markets and qualification requirements
- Higher education and the multiple dimensions of inequality and diversity
- Knowledge transfer and the legitimisation of higher education and scientific research in society
Besides participating in the tasks of academic self-administration, the professorship is responsible for representing the subject area in particular in the BA and MA degree programmes in sociology as well as in the teacher training programmes and in the educational and social science core curriculum. It is assumed that the candidate is willing to hold lectures in German and English.
