Research Assistant (m/w/d), EG 13 TV-H, fixed-term and part-time position (currently 20 hours per week)

Part-time with half of the regular working time of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until 31.10.2024 (§ 2 Abs. 2 WissZeitVG) within the BMBF project "Diamond-based Quantum Tokens" (DIQTOK). The possibility of doctoral studies is given. In the project, diamond pillars with the fabricated and optimized NV centers shall be used to build mobile security quantum tokens. The theoretical subproject shall describe all physical processes involved. The candidate shall simulate the fabrication and manipulation of NV centers in diamond using ultrashort laser pulses. Both density functional theory based- and large scale molecular dynamics simulations shall be performed. In addition, laser optimization of the structural environment of NV centers to minimize quantum decoherence, will be described theoretically.


  • Scientific collaboration in the above mentioned project;
  • Ab-initio simulation of light-matter interaction;
  • Construction of analytical interatomic potentials for the description of laser-induced solids;
  • Performance of large-scale TTM-MD simulations (two-temperature model molecular dynamics simulations) of laser production and treatment of NV centers in diamond;
  • Density functional theory calculations;
  • Machine learning-based optimizations;
  • close collaboration with other project partners in the DIQ-TOK project.


  • Completed course of academic study (Master degree) within the fiel of…The required degree must be available by the recruitment date at the latest. The degree required for this position must have been obtained by the starting date at the latest.
  • Good knowledge in the field of Theoretical Solid State Physics and Computational Physics.
  • Ability to think analytically; work independently, thoroughly and collaboratively.
  • Very good knowledge of the English language required.


  • Prior knowledge of density functional theory and machine learning;
  • Computer skills. Experience in programming
