The professorship is dedicated to research and teaching in Historical Musicology with a focus on providing overview courses. The area is to be covered with a balanced relationship between theory and practice and an interdisciplinary approach. The responsibilities include participation in the further development of the Institute for Music as well as in the organization and development of the associated curricula.

A qualified doctorate and at least two research areas in the field of Historical Musicology, compatible with the respective study programs and focuses of work within the Institute of Music, are expected (e.g. contemporary music, musical-scenic project work, systematic musicology). A connection to the professional world of musicology outside of universities and colleges is required. Experience in raising third-party funds and a familiarity with contemporary challenges, such as digitality or diversity/gender, are desirable, as well as a connection to the field of music publishing. The recruitment requirements according to §§ 67, 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act apply. In particular, the ability to carry out academic work, usually demonstrated by a habilitation or qualifications equivalent to a habilitation, and pedagogical suitability are required.
