Full-time position. The prerequisites for employment and performance requirements are determined by §§ 61, 62 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hessen (HHG).

We are seeking a person who will represent the field of macrosociological analysis of contemporary societies in research (in its full scope) and teaching (in all courses of study). With regard to research, this means casting macrosociological perspectives on the constellations and dynamics of social change, undertaking overall temporal diagnostic interpretations and pursuing comparative studies of societies. The appointee will broach the issue of structural dynamics of social inequalities and disparities on a broad theoretical and methodological basis. It is particularly important to us that the professorship has its own thematic focus that complements the profile of the Sociology Department. Candidates for this post will be expected to demonstrate that they have undertaken excellent research with an outstanding publication record and in addition have in the past successfully acquired third-party funded projects.
In teaching, the appointee for the professorship has to represent the subject area in the BA and MA degree programmes of the Sociology Department, as well as in the teacher training programmes and specialisation courses (“Kernstudium”). A high degree of connectivity to interdisciplinary centres at the university is desired. The appointee will be required to supervise and promote the work of junior researchers, especially in the area of our structured PhD training. Part of the official duties comprises of participation in academic self-governance.
