The position is to be filled by a person with nationally and internationally recognized art practice. As one of the two professorships in the two-semester-long Foundation Class in the Visual Arts and Art Education programs, the function is to familiarize students with the complexity of artistic questions and processes in both theory and practice.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate an extraordinary and unique artistic body of work and several years of experience with international exhibitions. In the teaching, the professor’s own areas of interest serve as a starting point to open up the broad spectrum of the visual arts in a variety of media to the heterogeneous group of students. Alongside abilities in teaching at the university level and extensive practical experience, a fundamental knowledge of contemporary discourses in the visual arts is also required. Active participation in the conceptual development of the foundational study course and the Visual Arts program is expected.
It should be noted that in the teaching formats at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, students of Art Education meet and study with students in Visual Arts – which is generally viewed as mutually beneficial.
Alongside research, artistic work, and teaching, the duties of the position include assisting and supporting the program’s artistic associates. This requires the ability to work together with a team consisting of several persons and thus strong cooperation skills.
The applicant must fulfill the following prerequisites:
The teaching load of the professorship is currently 18 semester hours per week (according to LVerpflV HE, Hessische Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung), which can be fulfilled in the department of Visual Arts by supervising a class. The Kunsthochschule is marked by the close proximity and exchange between the programs in Visual Arts, Art Education, Art History and Aesthetics, Visual Communication, and Product Design, which all work in close exchange with the workshops.
Participation in academic self-management and in committees, predominantly in German, are among the duties of the position. The prerequisites for employment and performance requirements are determined by §§ 67, 68 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hesse.
Please submit: a teaching and working concept (max. two pages) as well as a description of your own artistic practice (max. two pages). In the teaching and working concept (max. two pages) you should indicate your approaches to university teaching as well as your reflections on cooperative and interdisciplinary work in teaching and submit this with the application. The teaching should show how the spectrum of the contents of the profile and the defined contents will be conveyed in teaching. Along with the usual documentation, you should also submit a motivation statement, a CV, and a portfolio.
