The Research Training group focuses on investigating the social practice of elementary school teaching and the question of the qualities of subject-specific learning. The Graduate School’s research approach is different in that it systematically links different traditions of classroom research. The combination of German and mathematics didactics with praxeological teaching research and teaching quality research allows a multiple perspective on teaching and interdisciplinary theory development.

The Graduate School aims to develop empirical studies on the practice of subject-related learning in elementary school classrooms. Thus, we can thoroughly investigate the significance of the interaction order for subject-related learning and the content-related quality of teaching. From a theoretical and methodological point of view, we can explore new ways to observe and analyze learning as a social practice.

Further information on the research profile of the Research Training Group can be found at www.interfach.de. You can apply for the positions advertised here for the second cohort of doctoral researchers with your own project ideas or draw on suggestions for possible PhD projects.

Tasks:

  • Scientific collaboration in the above-mentioned project with the aim of a doctorate.
  • The Research Training Group offers the opportunity to carry out a PhD project in a renowned interdisciplinary research environment. The PhD projects are supported by workshops, participations of conferences and congresses as well as study and research stays. The doctoral researchers take part in the qualification program and scientific exchange of the Research Training Group in the form of seminars, workshops, conferences and colloquia.
  • Applicants are expected to outline a PhD project that is related to the thematic framework of the Research Training Group and that can be expected to be completed successfully within three years. They can use the suggestions for possible PhD projects for this purpose.
  • The Research Training Group will support doctoral studies that combine a subject-didactic perspective (German or mathematics) with a praxeological approach in the investigation of classroom interactions.
  • Active participation in the multi-paradigmatic discourse within the Research Training Group is expected.

Requirements:

  • Very good academic degree in education, psychology, linguistics or a sociological major or Master's degree or state exam in teaching.
