Part-time position with 65% of the working hours of a full-time employee. This is a fixed term-position of 36 months as part of the project “The role of nature for human well-being in the socio-ecological system of Kilimanjaro” - subproject: “Water governance and institutional fit as drivers of provisioning of nature’s contribution to people (NCP)” (§ 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG). The opportunity to do a doctorate is given.


Tasks:

  • Research and doctorate in the sub-project “Water governance and institutional fit as drivers of provisioning of nature’s contribution to people (NCP) in social-ecological systems” of the DFG (German Research Foundation) project (research group) KiLi-SES “The role  of nature for human well-being in the Kilimanjaro Social-Ecological System (Kili-SES)” at the University of Kassel, Department of International Agricultural Policy and Environmental Governance and under the overall project management of the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Center.
  • Preparation of scientific publications based on research and within the duration of the employment
  • Cooperation within the project, especially when quantitatively analyzing cross-project land use related survey data
  • Field study in Tanzania (Kilimanjaro)
  • Contribution to teaching of the section on environmental governance

Requirements:

  • Excellent degree in the social sciences (political science, geography, sociology, economics, sustainability science, environmental sciences, agricultural economics, etc.). The degree required for this position must have been obtained by the starting date at the latest.
  • Expertise and interest in researching the role of governance and institutions in socio-ecological systems (agricultural systems) in the Global South (Tanzania).
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; Knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Relevant experience with and/ or interest in quantitative and qualitative research methods (social network analysis, econometrics, semi-structured interviews)
  • Suitability for the tropics
  • Ability to work in a team with great own initiative
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in Tanzania for a longer period of time

 Advantageous:

  • Research experience in the Global South
  • Good knowledge of institutional approaches, social-ecological systems approaches, and environmental and resource economics, water research
  • Interest in conceptual work
  • Interest in method development and interdisciplinary work
  • Experience in working on joint projects
  • Teaching experience
