The University of Kassel is searching a scientifically outstanding personality, conducting research and teaching in "Ecological Plant Nutrition" with its components of soil biology, mineral nutrition, nutrient uptake, nutritional physiology, and product quality at different scaless of soil-plant-animal-human interactions under the framework conditions of organic agriculture. The professorship is expected to contribute to the consolidation of the profile of Organic Agricultural Sciences in the national and international context. In addition to the German-language BSc and MSc programmes in "Organic Agriculture", also basics in the English-language MSc programme "Sustainable International Agriculture" have to be taught. In these degree programmes content-related and methodological modules are to be offered.
Research and teaching experience in plant nutrition at different intensity levels and including soil biological processes must be demonstrated. In-depth knowledge of ecological plant nutrition under temperate and preferably subtropical conditions is expected. Collaboration is particularly encouraged with colleagues in the soil and plant sciences, agricultural engineering, and animal sciences, but also with the university’s Faculty of Architecture - Urban Planning - Landscape Planning and the newly established Sustainability Institute.Own contributions to and documented interest in research questions of organic agriculture and particularly vegetable production are of advantage.
Methodologically, experimental research approaches are expected to span different scales from laboratory to field experiments. Experience in the use and adaptation of plant nutrient models and knowledge of modern / molecular methods for researching the soil biome are desirable. In teaching, the successful candidate is expected to cover the field of ecological plant nutrition in its entire breadth. This includes general and specific crop nutrition, nutrient uptake and nutritional physiology, nutrient conversion in soils and organic substrates, as well as knowledge of feedback effects of nutrient uptake on soil fertility.
Applicants must have a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements with a focus on plant nutrition / soil biology. Relevant internationally peer-reviewed publications in leading journals in several of the above-mentioned subject areas as well as experience in the independent acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects must be proven. Expertise in the implementation of interdisciplinary cooperation projects is of advantage. Didactic competence, teaching experience and the willingness to teach in German and English are required, as well as readiness to participate in the university’s self-administration.
The recruitment requirements and performance requirements according to §§ 67, 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act apply. Participation in the self-administration of the university is expected.
