The candidate should represent Deep Semantic Learning in research and teaching and act as a bridge between the University of Kassel - in particular the Scientific Center for Information Technology Design (ITeG) - and the hessian.AI institute. For this purpose, the candidate must have excellent scientific qualifications in dealing with large amounts of data and their analysis as well as in the adaptation and further development of Deep Learning methods. This includes experience in sensor processing and analysis, information retrieval, and social media analysis, in addition to existing ties to the fields of data/text mining, NLP, and semantic web.

hessian.AI is a joint center for AI of 13 Hessian universities, which combines excellent basic research, application orientation and transfer to industry and society in a way that is unique in Germany. The holder of the professorship is a member of hessian.AI and usually performs his/her research within the center.

The ITeG is an interdisciplinary research institution of the University of Kassel with a focus on the social responsibility of IT design. ITeG promotes the interdisciplinary design of information and communication technology for socially desirable innovations.
The holder of the professorship is expected to have a strong involvement in both centers. Therefore, strong experience with interdisciplinary collaborations, especially with the humanities, social sciences, and/or law, but also with other application areas using techniques from data mining, text mining, natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine learning is expected.

With regard to the development of its Center for Sustainability, the University of Kassel would welcome experience in the field of Environmental Data Science.

The qualification of the person to be appointed, usually proven by a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent additional scientific achievements, should also be expressed by the acquisition of third-party funding, internationally visible publications, leadership experience, and a broad spectrum of teaching experience, especially in the area of basic lectures, also for students of computer science related disciplines.
