The professorship represents psychological foundations with concrete references to problems in social work. In addition to general psychological principles, approaches of the psychology of the ages as well as questions of crisis management and resilience understood in terms of life history are pursued in research and teaching.

The department takes on teaching tasks in particular in the Bachelor's programme "Social Work", in the Master's programme "Social Pedagogy in Training, Further Education and Continuing Education" as well as in the research-oriented MA "Diversity - Research - Social Work".

In addition to the psychology of the ages, the focus of research and teaching should be on organisational and counselling science issues that have systematic references to the multiprofessional requirements for action in the diverse fields of social work. Theoretical foundations of different practice methods are taught in teaching and further developed in research in a broad spectrum from relational counselling approaches (e.g. psychodynamic and systemic counselling) to low-threshold offers of social work (e.g. case work, outreach counselling, social psychiatric strategies and methods and rehabilitation with a person-centred addressee and life reference).

Possible focal points in the research of the field could be: Childhood, adolescence, middle age/adults, age(s); diversity- and discrimination-sensitive work and counselling approaches; psychodynamic counselling, systemic counselling, trauma, resilience, coping research.

Participation in the further development of the study programmes in the Institute of Social Work and involvement in research networks (e.g. FoSS) are desired. The applicant is characterised by high didactic competences and relevant experience in university teaching as well as innovative research contributions and relevant publications, preferably in high ranked journals or editions. Also desirable are experiences in the acquisition of third-party funding as well as a commitment to academic self-administration and an international orientation (e.g. cooperations, conferences, publishing).

The prerequisites for employment and performance requirements are determined by §§ 67, 68 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hesse (HessHG). In particular, the aptitude for academic work, as a rule proven by a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements, is required.
